Here are practical steps for cleaning PVC coated fabric:
Content
I. Basic Cleaning: Dealing with Dust and Dirt
▸ Rinsing with Water:
Use a hose with a "spray" setting to rinse away surface dust and dirt. Do not use a high-pressure washer (it will damage the seams).
▸ Washing with Soapy Water:
Fill a basin with warm water and add 2 pumps of dish soap (do not use laundry detergent or bleach).
Dip a soft brush or sponge into the suds and gently scrub the dirty areas in a circular motion, paying special attention to seams and creases where dirt accumulates.
II. Dealing with Stubborn Stains
Mold and Mildew: Spray a 1:1 mixture of white vinegar and water onto the moldy area, cover with a damp cloth for 20 minutes, gently scrub with a soft brush, and then rinse thoroughly.
Bird Droppings/Tree Sap: Dip a cotton swab in rubbing alcohol and dab the stain. After 10 seconds, wipe it off and immediately clean the residue with a damp cloth.
Grease Stains: Apply a small amount of undiluted dish soap and rub it into the stain with your fingers in a circular motion to dissolve the grease, then wash the entire area with soapy water.
III. Absolutely Forbidden Items
▸ Solvent Killers: Alcohol spray, gasoline, nail polish remover – these will directly dissolve the coating, making it sticky and unusable.
▸ Corrosive Cleaners: Toilet bowl cleaner, drain cleaner, bleach – these will corrode and whiten the fabric, making it irreparable.
▸ Harsh Tools: Steel wool, stiff brushes – these will create scratches, leading to water leakage when it rains.
IV. Post-Cleaning Care
Thoroughly Rinse Off Soap: Unrinsed soap residue will become sticky and attract dust. Rinse until there is no slippery feeling.
Air Dry, Avoid Direct Sunlight: Hang the fabric in a well-ventilated area to dry (such as a garage or under an awning). Do not expose it to direct sunlight (high temperatures will make the PVC sticky and accelerate aging).
Store Only When Completely Dry: Fold and store only when the fabric is completely dry to the touch. Storing it while damp will inevitably lead to mold!
